Golden Milk
Golden Milk is an Ayurvedic version of "warm milk" that has always been suggested to help with sleep. This recipe should be prepared and consumed right before bedtime as it can make you a little drowsy. Drinking this can also help with anxiety, inflammation and circulation. It uses simple ingredients that you probably have in your pantry. The recipe below is how I prefer to make it but there are many different recipes out there to explore!
Recipe for 1 serving:
1 cup milk (or milk substitute of your choice)
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon powdered turmeric
1/4 teaspoon powdered ginger
1/8 teaspoon powdered cardamom
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1 stick of cinnamon
Pinch of black pepper
Optional ingredients
1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup if you prefer sweeter drinks
1/2 teaspoon ashwagandha powder for mood regulation
1/2 teaspoon ghee to add a bit of richness
1. Bring milk and water to just under a boil, then reduce heat to simmer
2. Add all powdered ingredients and whisk until dissolved
3. Add the cinnamon stick whole
4. Simmer for 20 minutes, then remove the cinnamon if desired
5. Cool slightly and enjoy!
