Lotus Mudra
The beautiful lotus flower would not exist without the murky mud that it grows from.
Mudras allow us to go inward and help us focus on certain intentions by linking the mind to the body. The Lotus Mudra (Padma Mudra) guides the mind into a feeling of perseverance.
The lotus teaches you need darkness to have light. That great beauty can grow from the darkest of places. It is the same for us. Embrace all parts of yourself and you will find great strength within.
Now we practice:
Find a comfortable seat
Close your eyes or soften your gaze
Bring your hands to prayer
Allow the outer edge of your little fingers to stay pressed together and do the same with the outer edge of your thumbs, and the heels of your hands
With the outer edges of your hands together allow your palms and remaining fingers to pull away from each other creating a "cup" with your hands
Bring this mudra to your heart center
Focus on your breath and on your hands
With every breath envision a light growing between the hands
Meditate on light growing out of darkness
Stay in this meditation for as long as you may need it
When you have finished, bring your hands to touch your heart, absorbing the light you have created inside yourself
Slowly come back to your breath
Keep this feeling with you as you go about your day
